WORKING WITH ORGANIZATIONS AND TEACHING FILM MAKING

Issue TV staff have led numerous educational workshops teaching youth the art of documentary film production in Santa Fe, NM, and Chiang Mai, Thailand. Youth programs and Adult workshops including after school programs and camps are in development to give youth a voice and give them tools to change their world for the better. Internships in Austin Texas led to young film makers continuing on to produce their own PBS films.

PRODUCING VIDEOS, WEBSITES AND PRINT MATERIAL FOR NGOs

Never underestimate the power of a small group of people! So many grassroots groups, NGOs and non profit organizations simply do not have the budget to produce high end marketing videos, business cards, printed posters and websites. Part of our mission is to support these groups with our skills at discounted rates.

We have a multifaceted approach that focuses on using digital media tools to educate and empower people and communities. Executive Producer Sophie Rousmaniere’s family have been writers and journalists. As a child she was encouraged to move towards video and film so as to prepare for the future of media communications. With her team Sophie has been able to use creative media to engage communities all over the world.

OUTREACH CAMPAIGNS - EXAMPLES OF CHANGE IN ACTION

In Cameroon, West Africa, Issue TV helped fund and document the construction and development of a community radio station to educate the remote community about public health issues with the project “Radio Taboo.”

In 2015 when the team completed their PBS broadcast film “Yellow Fever - Uncovering the Navajo Uranium Legacy” they took the film on a tour of the Navajo Nation, screening the film for communities struggling with ongoing issues related to the film’s themes. Accompanying them on this tour were representatives of the US EPA region 9, the Indian Health Service and Navajo Birth Cohort Study. They travelled with Navajo elders documenting the Navajo Nation Dependents of Uranium workers lobbying efforts that led to the passing of the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act in 2022.

In 2019 When the Presidenté of the Municipality of Loulé, Portugal asked Issue TV to produce a film to help educate their community about predatory oil drilling being proposed off the pristine coast of Portugal the team produced a film and sent it on a 22 city tour in partnership with many NGOS and community leaders. This tour helped raise awareness about the impending industry takeover and brought voters to the polls leading Portugal to commit to ending fossil fuel exploration on their soil.

These examples of how Issue TV uses media to empower and educate.
