Fakir: Pioneer of Modern Body Modification

He has been labeled by various media as “Father of the Modern Primitive Movement”. For nine years he published his own photo magazine BODY PLAY & MODERN PRIMITIVES for those in our culture “who hear the sound of a different drummer.” BODY PLAY ONLINE and has changed the lives of tens of thousands of people through his work exploring ritual body modification that led to the explosion of body piercing and body modification culture today.Fakir passed away August 2018 and entrusted us with his story. Issue TV’s Executive Director Sophie Rousmaniere knew for decades and talked about this projet many times over the years. We are currently fundraising for this project and actively seeking sponsorship for what is sure to be an amazing story to be involved in telling

Following his early projects to his passing in August 2018,
the documentary explores how Fakir’s journey evolved from his early
experimental days of isolation, to his groundbreaking displays of gender flex,
opening doors of spirituality in a world of nihilism, to his journey into the world of BDSM and kink art.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Fakir’s work explored the human experience through body rituals influenced by tribal practices doen by indigenous peoples for centuries. He offered an alternative to status quo lifestyle, adding that “It’s your body, play with it”. He rejected stringent gender identity roles and explored his own identity in a number of ways.
